Dense Chocolate Cake With Whipped Cream and Raspberries

“Dense chocolate cake”- that’s what I googled on Sunday when I had a hankering to bake. I found Nigella Lawson’s recipe for dense chocolate loaf cake and gave it a go.

I’ve been wanting to use some of my frozen raspberries with chocolate cake, and this one seemed so rich it didn’t really need frosting…but who can say no to some whipped cream? Not me, man.*

Adam asked me if it’s supposed to be so gooey. It is very, very moist. Almost like it’s underdone. But I’m into that. And he isn’t much of a dessert person, but he said it’s incredible. So there ya go.

*Kitty Mabel never turns down whipped cream, either.

Spring

Not to brag, but the weather in New Orleans has been perfect for at least a week. We’ll get our comeuppance once summer rolls around, but for now, it’s been sunny and clear and not hot and not cold.

We’ve been riding our bikes more and taking the dog to the dog park and to the levee more. I’ve been wanting to paddle our canoe around the Bayou St. John and to visit Jean Lafitte Preserve, where I have always seen at least one alligator. I do consider the alligator sightings as a good thing, even if they scare me a little.

I grew some wheatgrass for my little plant-lovin’ kitty Max.

Nom nom nom! A little bit of spring for my indoor pet.

I’ve still been working on my cleaning and organizing, but I do have a big (for me) craft project that I should be finishing up in the next couple weeks. Can’t wait to post pictures of it!

Barkus 2011

I love, love, love Barkus, the dog parade that marches through the French Quarter!

This year, the theme was Broadway Tails.

We found this spunky little orphan dog on the way to the parade, and we just had to make her a part of our family! Can you guess what we named her?

Must end this post with our sweet girl! We didn’t really find her on a stoop, but she is a rescue dog. I wouldn’t get a pet any other way.
